Diamonds in the Dirt: Stories from a Junkyard Girl is Laurie Riedman’s memoir where she shares stories of her unique and painful past and the journey she took to heal old wounds to reveal joy and love. The challenge of this book design was to illustrate the essence of the memoir without highlighting diamonds or dirt on the cover! While we still have dirt, the image focuses on the joy of her childhood while growing up surrounded by tires and old car parts—with the tire swing a staple in a junkyard. A blurred gossamer tone to the image invokes the fuzzy nature of memories.
